The Indian Banking Personnel Selection is the main authority responsible for the conduct of the IBPS PO examination. IBPS PO Application form 2016
The candidates who have passed their bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognized university or any degree programme equivalent to it can apply for the IBPS PO examination. The candidates who are in the last year of their graduation are not allowed to appear for the examination. The candidates whose result have been declared for the last year of the degree or are about to be announced can take part in the examination.
The age of the general candidates should lie between 20-30 yrs as of 1 July, 2016. The relaxation for the age is applicable according to the government norms. However, the students of SC/ST/OBC categories can apply for the age relaxation for more than one category. The relaxation can only be provided for at most two categories present in the list provided by the department.

IBPS PO Syllabus & Pattern (an Overview)
The institute of banking personnel selection conducts the common written examination to recruit the probationary officers in the various public sector banks. The mode of examination is online. The examination is taken in the form of MCQ’s. The examination is of total 200 marks and the time allotted to each student is 2 hours. Negative marking is also present in the examination.
There is no negative marking for the unattempted questions. The question paper is available bilingually i.e. in English as well as Hindi except the English language section. An Aqui percentile method is followed for calculating the total percentile of each student. There are total 50 questions of reasoning and quantitative aptitude, 40 questions of English and general awareness and 20 questions of computer skills.
The candidates of general categories are required to score 24 marks as the minimum cutoff score and the cutoff score for the reserved categories is 21. A student must obtain at least this much score to clear the IBPS PO exam. After the common written examination, the candidates reach the next stage i.e. personal interview. This is the last stage of the examination.
IBPS PO Prelims Exam details
The preliminary examination of IBPS PO is much easier than the mains examination. The duration of the exam is one hour only and it consists of only three sections. Every question carries one mark. There are 35 questions of the reasoning ability and the quantitative aptitude section and 30 questions from the English language section.
There is negative marking for every wrong answer. There are altogether 100 questions in the preliminary examination. The preliminary examination is the first stage of the examination. A student needs to clear this stage in order to reach the next stage of the examination. This exam is considered easier than the mains examination as there are limited sections and the mode of examination is also easier.
After the examination, candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their scores and the shortlisted candidates are sent to the next level for the recruitment process. Most of the candidates get selected in this level of the examination.
IBPS PO Mains exam details
The mains examination is the second tier of the IBPS PO exam. Only those students are called for the examination those who are shortlisted for the exam. This is the second stage in the IBPS PO exam. This section is considered harder than the first tier. The second tier is made for the selection of the most competent and hardworking students from the shortlisted ones.
There are basically five sections in this mains examination i.e. General Awareness Paper, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Computer Knowledge. The total time given for attempting the question paper is 140 minutes.
There are altogether 50 questions of one mark each of reasoning as well as the quantitative aptitude section, whereas the general awareness and the English language section consists of 40 questions of one mark each. The admit card or the hall ticket for the IBPS PO examination is issued mostly in the first week of October. The admit card can be downloaded directly from the website of the department.
